Pay for12km get 1.8km for free…
Hi to all of you who have committed to running the mid length distance at the 2023 Possum. I have got some news I want to share with you. OK I will come straight out with it – The 12km course will actually be 13.8km.
When we moved our event to Kinloch we thought that our mid distance course could still be about 12km. However, when we started getting into the logistics we found we had to move where we had planned to start 1.8km down the road. We have tried a number of options to try and get the 12km but this ended up being the best and safest solution as we also now avoid all public roads.
But don’t panic, as we think that the slightly longer course will still be very achievable if you have been training for 12km. Now I say this because of the gentle course profile. There will be a small gradual uphill on farmland for the first 2.5km, then your course is a gradual downhill all the way to the finish line on the stunning Otaketake Trail. And to sweeten the deal, we will put water, electrolyte drink and loads of lollies in at the 2.5km mark, (top of the hill) and more lollies at the 7km mark and water and lollies at the 10.5km mark.
So I guess as we approach just 2 weeks to go until you take on the Possum, consider making those final long training runs just a wee bit longer…pay for 12km and get 1.8km for free..
We thank you for your understanding. Regards, Nick Reader – Race Director of the Possum.
